A Blessing in Disguise

Megan came to South Africa from Zimbabwe on refugee status, in hopes of finding a job to support herself and her three children, wanting to give them the best life possible. She moved to Masiphumelele, leaving her children behind with their grandparents. Unfortunately, once she came to South Africa she had nowhere to stay. Megan began dating a man who agreed to let her live in his home, if she agreed to sleep with him. Reluctantly she agreed, but she her persistence that he to wear a condom was not respected. At eight weeks pregnant, Megan went to the hospital in desperate need to abort her baby. While there she received abortion counseling from Baby Safe, and she was given options to consider. After she learned that she would be emotionally supported by Baby Safe, she chose life for her baby.

The father assured her that he would stay and help her raise the baby. However, six months into the pregnancy Megan called weeping and once again desperate. Her boyfriend had decided to pack up everything in the house, and move back to Malawi where he had a wife and children of his own. She returned home to find an empty house and rent due in a few days. Megan had a rough pregnancy, being very sick, anemic, and was constantly in and out of the clinic. Since she had no work, she continually stressed about how she would care for the child, and now she had no source of income or support from her boyfriend.

Fortunately, she started “Heart to Heart” Baby Safe’s new program, and a “Mommy Mentor” met with her every few weeks for discipleship and pregnancy/infant care education. Megan was in horrible need of love and support. She became depressed, suicidal and wasn’t eating. Baby safe was able to pay her rent for the first month she was alone, as well as encourage and pray with her. She was helped in making a CV, and with some advocacy she soon gained two part time jobs.

Megan recently gave birth to a healthy little boy, who has been named Blessing. After her baby was born, she was found in great spirits! She was so glad she had kept her baby; she looked at him and said, “I wanted to dump you but I kept you, I wanted to kill you, but now you are here in my arms.” Once he was a week old she enrolled the baby in infant day care. Now she will be able to go back to work, in order to ensure great care, love and only the best for his life!

New Safes!
One of our visions and desires at Baby Safe is to see fellow ministries and organizations install and operate baby safes of their own. The 3rd baby safe has been given to Immanuel’s Haven in Somerset West run by Bubbles and George, a couple with beautiful hearts for abandoned children and struggling mothers. Having adopted two young children on their own, they are raising numerous others at their children’s home, as well as running a crèche and several job-training programs. On their extensive property they have recently begun to build a larger home for their ever-expanding “family”. But being located near two townships, they desired to extend their help to reach local mothers in crisis and prevent the baby dumping that takes place.

Our friend and sponsor in Holland, Marjolein Visser, runs a foundation called Geven voor een beter Leven. Roughly translated this means, “Through the sponsors of my foundation, we are able to give people more comfort in their lives”. Through their generosity, the full amount has been provided for a baby safe to be installed at Immanuel’s Haven! When we informed Bubbles and George of this gift, the couple broke down and wept with joy and thanksgiving. We pray as this safe is installed, it will be a source of life and comfort to many!

The other safe sponsored by Marjolein’s foundation is being shipped to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Where Pregnancy Assist Center, directed by Rene Morcom, will provide this much needed option for the surrounding areas.

Recovered Treasures
Isaiah 45:3″I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by your name”

These lives were stolen treasures, reclaimed for the One who calls them by name!

Onako
He is 6 mo. now and was born to his 15-year-old mom. She was one of Bethany’s abortion clients who changed her mind. His mom has gone back to high school and his granny now takes care of him. He is one chubby bundle!

Leisal

Leisal came to us through the police. Her mom is a prostitute and drug addict who has beaten her several times. She was kept safe in our foster care until our bulldog advocacy put her mom behind bars for child abuse. Leisal is safely living with her granny now and walking on her own! After much prayer for her mother, she called Baby Safe from prison to request rehab upon her release!

Bethany
Her mother was originally scheduled for an abortion, but after counseling decided to make an adoption plan. However, as the life within her grew she knew she could not give it up. She gave birth in hospital without the help of a nurse, the baby came in her pants! But now her baby girl is strong and healthy, and she asked Baby Safe director, Bethany to be her baby’s godmother and name sake!

Wish List
We are praying and believing for the Lord’s provision in many areas. Would you join with us in praying, promoting, and giving?

*Baby Pack items
We need onesies, nappies, baby blankets, and wash cloths for our newborn baby packs that are passed out at False Bay Hospital, as well as formula, and any other baby care items.

*Baby Cot & Walking Ring
Baby Safe staff often give emergency care to babies for a night-or longer, in addition we would like to loan these to our safety families when needed.

*Safety Families
We need MORE families willing to do temporary care (0-6 weeks) for babies we intervene with, and we need families for long term placements (1-3 years). If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Danielle at danielle@thebabysafe.org

Would you dream and pray with us?!
We are dreaming and raising funds to purchase our own property, on which we can begin to build a village of hope with permanent offices, a baby home, safe housing, rehab facilities, job skills training, and more!

Meet Zamo!

Zamo is our most recent staff addition and only paid team member! We could not be more thrilled to have her after many months praying, the Lord provided for us to hire her. As a former Baby Safe client, going to hospital to abort, but later choosing life for her daughter, she now reaches young girls in Masiphumelele, with the love and hope of Jesus. She is leading a weekly bible study with all Baby Safe clients, and she is deeply impacting her community.

HEAR TO HEART!
We were excited to launch our Heart2Heart program this Feb, where we trained 12 “Mommy Mentors”, many who are former clients who want to give back. A Mommy Mentor is a volunteer matched with an at risk expecting mom. They meet every 4-6 weeks through out her pregnancy. We provide an easy curriculum of educating her on her body, health & safety for the baby, and also leading her towards following Jesus. Find out how you can help impact two lives at once!
